From April 2026, UK employment law introduces, day-one rights, expanded statutory sick pay, enhanced parental leave, stronger whistleblowing protections, and increased collective redundancy penalties.
The Employment Rights Bill is now the Employment Rights Act 2025. It has became law on 18 December 2025.
The Act will introduce additions and amendments to existing legislation, including the Employment Rights Act 1996.
EMPLOYERS ACT NOW!!!
Practical Steps for Employers to ensure they stay within the new Employment Law!
1. Update employment contracts, family stay within these new laws leave, and sickness absence policies to reflect day-one rights and SSP changes.
2. Train managers and HR staff on new parental leave, bereavement, and sick pay entitlements. Review collective redundancy procedures and model potential protective award exposure. Prepare for whistleblowing compliance and ensure reporting channels are clear.
Monitor government consultations and guidance for secondary legislation and phased implementation.
3. These reforms represent a major overhaul of UK employment law, aiming to modernise worker protections, simplify union processes, and enhance fairness in the workplace. Employers and employees should plan ahead to ensure compliance and awareness of new rights.
